Conoce a José Alfonso
Nacido de dos padres inmigrantes, fui criado por la clase trabajadora y tenía estrechos vínculos con las actividades sindicales en la ciudad de Nueva York. También trabajé en oficios con mi padre como personal de mantenimiento y trabajé medio tiempo en comida rápida para ayudar a mantener a mi familia.
Después de graduarme de la escuela secundaria, elegí servir a nuestro país uniéndome al Cuerpo de Marines de los Estados Unidos. Allí ayudé a organizar la infraestructura para múltiples bases y ayudé a crear planes de acción para la Asistencia de Ayuda en el Este y Sudeste de Asia.
Después de estar estacionado en San Diego, conocí a mi esposa Leah Alfonso (Plockmeyer), nativa del oeste de Michigan y compañera de la Infantería de Marina; nos casamos en el verano de 2012.
Una vez que se completó el contrato militar de Leah, ambos decidimos regresar a Michigan.
Aquí en Michigan, trabajé como electricista, asistente de ventas y banquero antes de darme cuenta de que extrañaba trabajar en el servicio público.
Empecé a trabajar para la Ciudad de Kentwood en su Departamento de Inspecciones y continué trabajando hasta que elegí postularme para el cargo.
Why I'm running
As the son of working-class immigrant father and Puerto Rican mother, I was raised by the service workers, laborers, and union members in my community. Honesty, humility, and hard-work were core traits I learned to value. My childhood also instilled me a sense of giving back to the community, like the workers that raised me. That's why upon graduation, I joined the United States Military. A decade later, and as a public servant, I've seen the way representatives fight for themselves over my neighbors, friends, and family. The core traits I learned to value have been abandoned by Washington, but they haven't abandoned me. I was raised to fight for my community, and I'm running to do just that. I want to give West Michigan a strong voice in Congress by bringing jobs back to our state, protecting your healthcare rights, and keeping toxic chemicals out of our pipelines. As a citizen, husband, and father, I will do whatever it takes to protect and fight for the interests of West Michigan. That is why we are running for Michigan's 4th Congressional.
